Latin music sensation Bad Bunny is bringing his talents to the big screen! He’s set to play a Marvel superhero named El Muerto in a movie that carries the same name. This upcoming film will be a spin-off to the Spider-Man franchise. “El Muerto” means “The Dead One” in English.
Bad Bunny has been unintentionally preparing for the role by being involved in a few wrestling matches at WWE’s headquarters. El Muerto is described as a wrestler who gets his superhero powers of strength and speed through his mask and costume.
The original Spider-Man comics see El Muerto fighting Spider-Man at a wrestling charity match and nearly revealing his identity. Luckily, Spider-Man injects El Muerto with a poison that paralyzes him.
Although the two weren’t on good terms afterward, Spider-Man saves El Muerto’s life. Then, the two pair up to beat El Muerto’s nemesis, El Dorado.
Bad Bunny is very excited about this new role. He told the press that “to bring El Muerto to life is just incredible.”
He adds, “I’m a former champion, so this is why I love this character. This is the perfect role for me. It will be epic to me.” The musician unveiled that he grew up watching wrestling as well. He’ll be the first Latino actor to lead a Marvel movie.
El Muerto will premiere on January 12, 2024.
