Since the turn of the century, HBO has established themselves as one of cable television’s most prominent heavyweights. Critically acclaimed series such as The Sopranos and The Wire have cemented the network’s legacy by providing viewers with captivating, fresh content that has left them on the edge of their seat’s time and time again, and they continue to produce new content to this very day. Take, for instance, Game of Thrones, the fantasy series based upon the literary work of George R. R. Martin which ran for eight seasons and catapulted audiences into another world filled with mythical creatures and governed by old-world politics foreign to us in the 21st century. Well fans of said series are in luck: this week HBO unveiled the first official trailer for House of the Dragon, the highly anticipated Game of Thrones prequel series that is poised to captivate audiences just as much as its predecessor did.
Game of Thrones was revered for its complexity and the number of layers embedded within its plotline at any given moment while remaining refreshingly unique the entire time it was on the air. When the series concluded in 2016, fans across the globe were left in a state of ambivalence, sad to see the series go but enthralled by the final season which answered many of their burning questions but left just as many unanswered as fans wondered what could possibly come next despite the series concluding. Now those same fans are going to be elated to hear that the Game of Thrones prequel series House of the Dragon is seemingly closer than anybody expected, with HBO unveiling the first official teaser trailer for the budding new series earlier this week. In the dramatic, two-minute long clip fans are taken back to the mythical world of Westeros where King Viserys Targaryen, played by Paddy Considine, declares that his daughter Princess Rhaenyra, Emma D’arcy, will be the heir of his throne, alongside a set of clips that feature a whole new set of faces that are just as ready to fight for control of the vast kingdom and the Iron Throne. Fans are sure to recognize the name Targaryen as well as some others as House of the Dragon aims to tell the history behind one of the most successful television series of all time and it should be interesting to see, which is set to debut on HBO this summer on August 21st.

The new series will seemingly aim to tell the history behind the iconic families and individuals at the behest of Game of Thrones in a way that is virtually certain to have fans equally as enthralled, only further building upon HBO’s legacy.
