Jon Hurwitz, the co-creator of Netflix’s Cobra Kai, says he has no connection to Sony Pictures’ upcoming Karate Kid movie. Per his Twitter page, Hurwitz said he doesn’t know much about the film. He elaborated by stating that this Karate Kid remake isn’t focused on the Cobra Kai cast. The conversation sparked following a fan’s question about the movie.
He wrote,
“The guys and I would love to make Karate Kid and Cobra Kai movies and hope to someday. But this one isn’t from us or focused on the Cobra Kai cast. Don’t know much about it, but wish it well.”
According to the film’s short synopsis, “Karate Kid will focus on a character named Li that is dealing with a past tragedy that drives a wedge between himself and his mother.”
The Karate Kid franchise kicked off with the 2010 rendition of the film by Harald Zwart. That re-creation starred Jaden Smith and Jackie Chan. Although it received some negative feedback, it amassed nearly $400 million at the box office.
