Netflix is looking to potentially re-create their hit show, Squid Game, in the United States. The news came about during Jeff Sneider‘s sitdown with The Hot Mic podcast. He assumes that since there is yet to be a definite release date for the series, Netflix will attempt to make a version of it in the U.S.
Sneider also admitted to not knowing what a U.S. version would look like. However, he draws this theory because he knows how frustrating it is for account holders who do not know the foreign language. This same factor could persuade Netflix to make the series themselves. The Korean-based thriller initially faced some backlash because of its inaccurate English subtitles.
Squid Game is created by writer-director Hwang Dong-Hyuk. He’s known for putting all the pieces together for South Korean films like The Fortress, Miss Granny, and Silenced. The show is about 456 individuals who are desperate for a wad of cash. Eventually, they receive a peculiar invitation to participate in a series of children’s games that’ll give them 456 billion won if they win them all. Yet, they discover that this prize is life or death.
The show stars Lee Jung-Jae, Park Hae-Soo, Wi Ha-Joon, Oh Young-Soo, Anupam Tripathi, Heo Sung-Tae, Kim Joo-Ryoung, and Jung Ho-Yeon.
