The release date for Velma’s second season has been set. Despite its first season receiving negative reviews last year from fans and critics, the Scooby Doo spin-off series was renewed for another season based on its high viewership ratings. The new set of mysterious episodes, led by Mindy Kaling, will premiere on HBO Max on April 25.
In the first season, Velma explores the beginning of the clue solver’s career. After her mother disappears and several local teenage girls are killed, it’s up to Velma to put the clues together to save her town from more evil dealings. The first season shows how the Scooby-Doll gang initially joined forces as well.
“Velma is an adult animated comedy series telling the origin story of Velma Dinkley, the unsung and underappreciated brains of the Scooby-Doo Mystery Inc. gang,” the series’ logline states. “An original and humorous spin that unmasks the complex and colorful past of one of America’s most beloved mystery solvers.”
The first season of Velma stars Kaling as Velma, Constance Wu as Daphne, Sam Richardson as Shaggy, and Glenn Howerton as Fred. The season also had guest appearances from Jane Lynch, Wanda Sykes, Russell Peters, Melissa Fumero, Stephen Root, Gary Cole, Ken Leung, Cherry Jones, Frank Welker, “Weird Al” Yankovic, Fortune Feimster, Yvonne Orji, Sarayu Blue, Nicole Byer, Ming-Na Wen, Shay Mitchell, Debby Ryan, Kulap Vilaysak, and more.
