A new visual for Wicked gives viewers a behind-the-scenes look at the movie’s stunning sets of Emerald City, Munchkinland, Shiz University, and how the creative team brought Oz to life. According to director Jon M. Chu‘s commentary, the sets were built to make the fantastical setting of Oz feel more realistic and immersive. The Oz even grows nine tulips in the footage!
Elsewhere in the video, Cynthia Erivo, who plays Elphaba, explained how seeing all of these spot-on details in the visual feeds the imagination. Meanwhile, Ariana Grande, who plays Glinda, expressed her excitement about how Oz was physically and innovatively brought to life. The cast also includes Michelle Yeoh as Madame Morrible, Jonathan Bailey as Fiyero Tigelaar, Jeff Goldblum as the Wizard of Oz, Bowen Yang as Pfannee, Keala Settle as Miss Coddle, Marissa Bode as Nessarose Thropp, Bronwyn James as ShenShen, and Ethan Slater as Boq.
Wicked is a fantasy-meets-musical movie. It promises an unforgettable experience with a melting pot of refreshing music and a magical ambiance.
Originally slated for a November 27th, 2024 debut, the film will now hit theaters a week earlier, on November 22nd, 2024. Although the exact reason for this change has yet to be confirmed, speculation stirs that this move is strategically planned to avoid a clash with Disney’s Moana 2, which shares the initially scheduled date.
