Rihanna Stars As Smurfette In New ‘Smurfs’ Trailer

The beloved blue characters are making a grand return to the big screen in the upcoming Smurfs movie. Rihanna, who’s voice acted in movies like Home, will be portraying Smurfette, adding a fresh dynamic to the new installment. The official trailer which dropped today gives fans a sneak peek into an exciting adventure. It starts with the Smurfs dancing to the singer’s hit single “Don’t Stop The Music.”

After a huge drone with a huge purple beam overcasts their village and takes Papa Smurf, the Smurfs must work together and venture into the human world to save their own kind. The trailer highlights a blend of humor, action, and heartwarming moments as the iconic blue characters navigate the challenges of the human world. Fans of the original series and newcomers alike can look forward to a film that honors the classic charm of the Smurfs.

The new Smurfs movie is directed by Chris Miller and co-directed by Matt Landon. The Smurfs’ impressive cast list also features Nick Offerman, Nick Kroll, James Corden, Octavia Spencer, Daniel Levy, Amy Sedaris, Hannah Waddingham, Sandra Oh, Natasha Lyonne, JP Karliak, Alex Winter, Billie Lourd, and Xolo Maridueña, along with Kurt Russell and John Goodman.

Smurfs is set to debut more than a decade after the release of the first film, The Smurfs, which hit theaters in 2011 with Katy Perry voicing Smurfette. This was followed by The Smurfs 2 in 2013 and Smurfs: The Lost Village in 2017. The Smurfs franchise comes from the comic series of the same name, created by Belgian artist Peyo.
