Disney is on a roll with their current stream of live-action remakes with some of the greatest animated classic films like The Lion King, Aladdin, The Little Mermaid and now our favorite warrior princess Mulan.
This film like all other live-action remakes is a depiction of the original 1998 animated classic. The official trailer dropped on Sunday (July 7) and just in time to celebrate women empowerment during the United States Women’s National team victorious win at the World Cup.
Disney took a different approach to this remake, by removing the musical numbers and focusing more on an action-packed feminist inspired film.
According to Vox, ” Mulan will take the story back to its roots to focus on a young woman who joins the Chinese Imperial Army, taking her father’s place among the troops by posing as a man. In doing so, she takes a stand against her more traditional upbringing and all the expectations of marriage and homemaking that came with it.”
Mulan will be played by Liu Yefei, a popular Chinese actress and joining her will be popular action film actors Jet Li and Donnie Yen.
Let’s hope this new and more serious Mulan meets our expectations like the animated version did. Check out the trailer and let us know what you think.
