The Tulsa King franchise is getting bigger with a brand-new spin-off starring Samuel L. Jackson. The show has gone through some major changes, including a new name and more involvement from co-creator Taylor Sheridan.
The spin-off was first called NOLA King, but it has now been renamed Frisco King. The story will no longer take place in New Orleans. Instead, it will be set in Frisco, Texas. Sheridan will also be in charge of penning the script for all eight episodes of the first season.
The initial plan was for Dave Erickson to write the pilot episode and serve as showrunner. However, he left the project in July 2025. It’s not clear yet if the show will hire a new showrunner, since some of Sheridan’s other series don’t use one. Casting is already underway, and filming is expected to begin in late March in Fort Worth, Texas.

Sheridan taking full control of the writing shows strong support for the project. While he helped write the first episode of Tulsa King, he is now fully leading this spin-off. Paramount executives say his involvement will help bring Jackson’s character to life in an exciting way for fans.
Jackson plays Russell Lee Washington Jr., a character who first appeared in season three of Tulsa King. His role was so popular that it led to him getting his own series.
