Scarlett Johansson has been spotted in new set photos from the upcoming Exorcist movie directed by Mike Flanagan. The pictures give fans an early look at the horror film, its cast and possible storyline.
The behind-the-scenes shots show Johansson filming with Chiwetel Ejiofor and Rahul Kohli. In one photo, they’re walking down some outdoor stairs. In another picture, Johansson is leaning against a car. There’s also a clip where she talks with Ejiofor while Sasha Calle appears in the background.
In the new Exorcist film, Johansson plays a mother who’s facing a terrifying supernatural entity. Jacobi Jupe plays her son, and their relationship takes up a clunk of the plot. The movie also stars John Leguizamo, Laurence Fishburne, Diane Lane, and Flanagan’s usual collaborators Carla Gugino and Kate Siegel.
This version is not a direct sequel or remake of The Exorcist: Believer. It takes place in the same universe but tells a new story, giving the filmmakers more freedom to explore new ideas while keeping ties to the original films.
The last Exorcist film by David Gordon Green didn’t receive great reviews, so fans are hoping this new installment will do better.
Johansson’s career has covered many genres: from her breakout roles in Lost in Translation and Girl with a Pearl Earring to worldwide fame as Black Widow in Marvel’s Avengers series, especially after Endgame.
Flanagan is writing, directing, and producing the film. It’s being repped by Universal Pictures, Blumhouse Productions, Atomic Monster, and Morgan Creek Entertainment .
