After telling Town & Country last year that she’d be open to having a role in the second A Minecraft Movie, Kirsten Dunst is actually going to be starring in it. Crediting her kids’ love for the first film as the spark of her interest, the actress is set to play a character who, for now, will “remain deep in the mine.” Jared Hess will take another spin at directing the movie, while Chris Galletta will be handling the screenplay.

A Minecraft Movie took the box office by storm in 2025. Starring Jack Black and Jason Momoa, the kid-friendly action flick amassed $163 million during its domestic opening and has since earned $424 million, with a worldwide sum of almost $1 billion. The cast also includes Danielle Brooks, Matt Berry, and Jennifer Coolidge. A Minecraft Movie is based on the popular sandbox computer game Minecraft, which was released back in 2011.
