The anime Naruto is being transformed into a live-action movie. Masashi Kishimoto, the creator of the iconic manga, has confirmed that the film is moving forward and Lionsgate is currently searching for its cast. The movie will be directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, best known for Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and the upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
Speaking with Rolling Stone, Cretton shared what drew him to the project, explaining that Naruto’s story resonates with him on a deeply personal level.
He said the emotional journey of a boy who grows up feeling isolated and struggles with the powerful beast sealed inside him is the main plot.
Instead of only focusing on ninja battles, Cretton wants to highlight Naruto’s emotional growth. The movie aims to explore his loneliness, the shame he feels over the Nine-Tailed Fox living within him, and how he eventually learns that the very thing he feared is also what gives him strength.
The live-action adaptation is still in development and hasn’t received a release date or entered production.
