The Further has officially reopened its doors and this time, horror fans don’t have to leave the house to enter. Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has unleashed Insidious: Out of the Further onto premium digital platforms, giving fans of the long-running supernatural franchise their latest opportunity to face the spirits, demons and otherworldly horrors lurking just beyond our reality.
Following its theatrical release on August 21st, 2026, the sixth installment in the Insidious franchise became available for digital purchase and rental at 9 PM PST on October 5th, translating to midnight EST on October 6th. For those who missed the theatrical scare or simply weren’t ready to leave The Further behind, the nightmare is now available to revisit from home.
Welcome Back To The Further
Directed and co-written by Jacob Chase, Insidious: Out of the Further introduces audiences to Gemma, a young mother raising her daughter in the very house where she grew up. Unfortunately for Gemma, home isn’t exactly where the heart is. It’s where the haunting begins.
Gemma discovers that she possesses the ability to enter The Further, the franchise’s terrifying purgatorial dimension inhabited by lost souls and malevolent entities. But there’s a catch. Gemma doesn’t simply have the ability to travel into this supernatural realm. She can bring things back. And when something sinister begins pursuing her, that ability turns the boundary between the living world and The Further into an increasingly dangerous two-way street.
A New Generation Meets A Familiar Nightmare
Amelia Eve leads the latest chapter as Gemma, joined by Brandon Perea, Maisie Richardson-Sellers, Island Austin and Charli Penton. But longtime Insidious fans have another reason to press play. Lin Shaye returns as Elise Rainier, the beloved paranormal investigator whose presence has become synonymous with the franchise.
Her return further connects Out of the Further to the mythology that has made Insidious one of modern horror’s most recognizable supernatural properties. The film also serves as a direct sequel to 2023’s Insidious: The Red Door, continuing the franchise’s exploration of the boundary between our world and the mysterious realm beyond it.
Turn Up The Atmosphere
For fans who consider sound just as important as what appears on screen, Out of the Further comes equipped with Dolby Atmos support on its digital release. That’s especially fitting considering the franchise’s musical DNA.
Joseph Bishara, the composer responsible for scoring the first five Insidious films, returns to provide the music for the latest chapter. Bishara’s haunting soundscapes have long played an important role in creating the unsettling atmosphere of the series, making the audio experience particularly worth appreciating for horror fans watching with a capable home theater setup.
Is Insidious: Out of the Further Scary?
That answer may depend on what you’re looking for from the franchise. Critical reactions have been mixed. Some reviews have praised the film’s ability to deliver genuinely hair-raising sequences and effective scares, while others have argued that the set pieces are stronger than the screenplay surrounding them.
With Out of the Further, audiences can decide for themselves. And at just 1 hour and 46 minutes, the latest journey into the supernatural realm doesn’t require an entire evening commitment.
When Will It Stream?
For now, digital purchase or rental is the only way to officially watch Insidious: Out of the Further at home. The film has not yet arrived on a subscription streaming service, and Sony and Netflix have not announced an official streaming date.
There has been speculation that the movie could potentially make its Netflix debut around December 19th, 2026, but that date remains an estimate rather than a confirmed release. So if you’re hoping to watch the newest Insidious installment immediately, the digital route is currently your ticket into The Further.
The Door Is Open
Six films into the franchise, Insidious continues to prove that audiences aren’t quite finished being afraid of what’s waiting on the other side. Out of the Further expands the mythology by giving its newest protagonist a particularly dangerous ability — the power to cross the threshold and potentially bring something back with her.
And perhaps that’s the most unsettling idea of all. Because traditionally, surviving a horror movie meant escaping the haunted house. In Insidious, the problem has always been that the house isn’t necessarily where the haunting ends. Sometimes, the real nightmare is what follows you home. Nonetheless, Insidious: Out of the Further is now available for premium digital purchase and rental. The Further is waiting.
