Ursula might be an expert at making things magically appear, but Queen Latifah is the one who pulled the ultimate trick during “The Little Mermaid Live” by making some viewers’ doubts about the production disappear. When does Queen Latifah ever disappoint?
Latifah proved herself to be the much-praised standout in a show that otherwise hadn’t caught to much excitement. Queen brought the bravado and bold staple needed to pull off both the big dialogue and the even bigger signature number, “Poor Unfortunate Souls,” which was one of the best performances of the night.
Queen Latifah’s amazing performance went along with an incredible costume that was nothing less than Disney standard.
Unfortunately, had the costume department used a little more effort towards Shaggy‘s Sebastian outfit, maybe he would have hit the stage in something a little more crab-like instead of red, latex-like jacket and pants combo that lacked the pop needed to standout on the ocean floor.
Other highs, included the dreamy vocals of Auli’i Cravalho as Ariel, Graham Phillips as Prince Eric and “Jimmy Kimmel Live’s” Guillermo Rodriguez dressed as a blowfish. Was The Little Mermaid Live a success? Thats up to you to decide, but congratulations Queen Latifah for another epic performance.
