Elizabeth Banks made her directorial debut in 2015 with Universal’s Pitch Perfect 2, and then continued on recently with 2019’s Charlie’s Angels. With no end in sight, Banks is moving on to her next project where she will both star in and direct The Invisible Woman for Universal Pictures.
The 1940s saw the release of The Invisible Woman as a sci-fi comedy, following a department store model who agrees to be used as a guinea pig in an experiment involving an invisibility machine. She uses her transparency to take revenge on her mean boss but unwittingly falls into a caper involving gangsters.
Although Universal and Blumhouse are releasing The Invisible Man next February, these two films are not to be confused. The Invisible Woman is a separate Universal release, based on an original concept by Banks. Erin Cressida Wilson, screenwriter for The Girl on the Train, has written the latest draft of the screenplay, while Banks and her producing partner at Brownstone Productions, Max Handelman, will produce. Brownstone’s Alison Small is all set to executive-produce.
