Today (Dec.4) Jay-Z turns the big 5-0, and to celebrate, he’s toasting the milestone with a $5,000 bottle of cognac and placing his albums back on Spotify.
The billionaire rapper, entrepreneur, and co-owner of D’Ussé cognac is unveiling a new pricey brandy to mark his personal golden jubilee. The D’Ussé 1969 Anniversaire is cognac bottled from a single barrel in France that has been maturing in the centuries-old cellars of Château de Cognac, where the other D’Ussé expressions XO (priced at $199) and VSOP ($50) are made.
“Once this barrel is empty, we won’t be able to produce anything like it,” – Global D’Ussé Ambassador
The first 50 bottles will be numbered one through 50 and given away to Jay-Z’s close family and friends. When it comes to the taste profile, its said to be described as it having “nice aromas of hazelnut, walnut, and candied fruit like apricot and apple. It has subtle notes of leather and tobacco.” Interesting, huh? But next year, fans can get a taste when a limited number of bottles will be sold during the 2020 holiday season in high-end retail accounts. D’Ussé 1969 Anniversaire is also expected to appear on the top shelf of some fancy bars and restaurants.
And if that wasn’t dope enough for you, today (Dec.4) after a three year hiatus from Spotify, fans can now find Jay-Z’s back catalogue online. Of course, Hova’s music was still available on Tidal, which he owns, Apple Music and other streaming services, but in honor of his 50th birthday, the rap icon has released his entire discography on Spotify, much of which he pulled from the streaming site back in April of 2017.
All the legendary albums including his most recent “4:44”, as well as “Watch the Throne”, “The Black Album”, “American Gangster” and more. Jay-Z originally took most of his catalogue off the site in 2017 ahead of the release of 4:44, presumably to encourage fans to sign up for his service TIDAL. The announcement of the catalogue’s return was made on Twitter by Spotify, and Jay-Z has yet to comment or make an announcement himself. HAPPY BIRTHDAY HOV!
