Who really originated the “drive the boat” phrase? Kodak Black may be behind bars, but he has made it known that he has an issue with Megan Thee Stallion taking credit for the popular catch phrase.
On a recent episode of Good Morning America 3: Strahan, Sara, and Keke, Thee Stallion was an on air guest while the host played a game of trivia. During the game, co-host KeKe Palmer questioned the other hosts, Michael Strahan and Sara Haines, on who originated the slogan. Strahan said it was Megan and everyone, including the Houston icon, was quick to agree.
Upon viewing the episode, Kodak took to his social media on Tuesday March 17 to send the Houston rapper this message. He writes, “I Really Wanna Go Bad On Lil One but I’m Keepin This Shit Pretty #LetMeDriveTheBoat #FreeTheGoat.”
However, though we all adore “Hot Girl Meg”, there is no doubt that Kodak may truly have a point. The Florida native coined the “drive the boat” phrase in February 2019 on his Instagram Story. The slogan has since been remixed and used as the punchline to various memes, gifs, and videos.
Thee Stallion then popularized the catchphrase in the summer of 2019 across social media. According to Megan, “driving the boat” consists of taking straight shots of liquor, preferably Hennessy or D’usse and simply riding out the waves after. Before that, Megan popularized the slogan “Hot Girl Summer” and trademarked it.
So, who will win in this battle of “driving the boat?” It is hard to say, but all we know is that Kodak Black wants full credit for creating the “drive the boat” slogan.
