Khalid joins forces with rising super star Summer Walker for a remix of his single “Eleven.” The original debuted earlier this year in January, but now it is back with new honey-dipped vocals, and an exhilarating music video.
The visual is reminiscent of an early The Fast and The Furious era as it is brimming with neon colors, hot rides, and adrenaline packed racing. Director Daniel Russell reached out to Nino Pansini and Jeff Barnett for camera direction and stunt driving, both acknowledged for their work on the world renown franchise.
The flirtatious track explores the underlying paranoia that the singer-songwriter felt during a midnight drive with his love interest, backed by electrifying guitar loops and soul touching harmonies. The visual captures Khalid eyeing his crush in her neon pink coupe, as he cruises through Los Angeles after dark in his sleek silver BMW. Khalid and Walker meet up with a crew of drag racers before engaging in a high-speed race of their own, and the pair race against a villainous competitor who seems to be out to get them. Before a winner is announced, a 90’s styled dance break ensues, leaving the end of the race open to interpretation.
“Eleven” is part of a recent catalogue of singles from Khalid, including the Disclosure collaboration “Know Your Worth.” Last year, he released his sophomore album Free Spirit, which featured hit single “Talk.” He also appeared on songs by Majid Jordan, Ed Sheeran and P!nk.
Walker has been equally busy as she released her debut album Over It in October. She has made a series of guest appearances on other artists’ songs in 2020, including a remix of Justin Bieber’s “Yummy,” and Davido’s “D & G.”
