Over the course of Hollywood’s illustrious history, fans have been treated to countless iconic franchises with an array of films that is sure to quench any consumer’s demands for entertainment. When it comes to trilogies however, that list becomes much shorter: referring to a series of three simultaneous works grouped together to tell a story, there are a few select series of films that both fit this description and resonate with audiences for the entirety of their duration. Among those is the Lord of the Rings trilogy, a series of fantasy films based upon novels of the same name written by J.R.R. Tolkien which catapulted fans into a mystical world unlike anything they’ve ever read or seen. With that fantasy came plenty of action and the Lord of the Rings trilogy is considered to be among the greatest trilogy of films ever produced, and it looks like they are ready to make a comeback: Amazon has released a teaser trailer this week to build hype for their upcoming Lord of the Rings series, and in it we got the title of the upcoming series as well.
Lord of the Rings was a massive box office success upon its initial release, with each film grossing billions of dollars at box offices around the globe. With the last film in the trilogy being released in 2003 it has been nearly twenty years since we have seen the mystical world on our screens, unless you’re an avid fan and have rewatched the films since, but it looks like that is all about to change. Amazon has been in production on a Lord of the Rings spin-off series for some time now, and this week they released the first official teaser trailer for the project which also included the project’s title. Reposted below, we watch as the camera seemingly pans over dramatic landscapes, before seeing fire and smoldering liquid representative of a ring being cast as the title is being spelt out: The Rings of Power. This is certainly an intriguing title given that the series is supposedly set to take place prior to the events in the Lord of the Rings films and could seemingly provide enthusiastic fans with a completely new perspective on the iconic franchise. We will just have to wait and see, with The Rings of Power slated to be available for streaming on Amazon Prime Video beginning September 2nd.
With the original The Lord of the Rings novels being published in the mid-1950’s, the franchise certainly has a long and illustrious history. From novels to films and now television, the series has adapted time and time again to continuously expose new generations to the magic behind the work of Tolkien. While fans have some time to wait before The Power of the Rings hits Amazon Prime Video, they have plenty of time to rewatch the classic films before that day comes.
