Ryan Gosling gets another role out in space taking lead for the Andy Weirs adaption novel ‘Project Hail Mary’. The film gets an astonishing duo to helm reporting Oscar award winners Phil Lord and Chris Miller of Spider-Man:Into the Spider Verse on board.
Spring 2021 slate promised “a solitary tale of an astronaut on a space ship who is tasked with saving the planet.” from Random House. MGM acquire rights for the film, got Gosling in lead and hired the stellar directors before the script details were even completed. The adaption is only temporarily titled “Project Hail Mary” and it’s unknown whether or not composition has continued or paused.
Amy Pascal (Venom: Let There Be Carnage, Little Women) is attached to produce the project alongside Gosling, Weir, Lord & Miller, Ken Kao and Aditya Sood. Sood previously produced the 2015 adaptation of Weir’s Mars-set novel The Martian, directed by Ridley Scott (Alien: Covenant) and starring Matt Damon (Ford v Ferrari), which was nominated for seven Oscars including Best Picture and Best Actor.
Credits for this film seem promising, let’s see if the final project takes us out of this world. Release date TBA
