Music is one of the most fundamental vessels through which we capture timeless moments, memories and unwavering feelings. However, when music powerfully captures a universal truth about the overall human experience, it is then a force to be reckoned with; Bad Bunny’s new surprise track has done just that.
The Puerto Rican rappers new song “En Casita” is dedicated to all those who find themselves quarantined without their “bae.” Unless you’re already quarantined with your significant other (situationships included), no one can meet up for sweet intimacy due to the self-isolation guidelines around COVID-19. Puerto Rico’s residents are under an especially strict lockdown as of March 15th when their governor issued a 9:00 p.m. curfew for non-essential workers.
In spite of the strenuous circumstances that are sweeping the world, Bad Bunny decided to make the best of his government-mandated quarantine the only way he can: Writing a song about it. Recorded and produced at home with his iPhone, “En Casita” is a sweet message of solidarity with those living under curfew without their lovers and serves as an example for all those who considered breaking quarantine; if the Grammy-winning singer hold on a little longer, so can we.
“Yo te quería ver/pero no se va poder,” (I wanted to see you/But won’t be able to) the lyrics sadly explain, “toque quedarme en casa.” (I’m under curfew).
Then, as a surprise to us all, Bunny’s girlfriend Gabriela Berlingeri, joins in on the infectious hook, where the two sing: “when the quarantine passes, you owe me sex.”
The improvised trap song, was uploaded to Soundcloud therefore making it accessible to everyone during these difficult times.
