Kicking off his career in the early 2000s, Benedict Cumberbatch is nothing short of a Hollywood veteran at this point. In recent years, he has seen massive success as the star of the superhero franchise Doctor Strange, one of the countless heroes in the Avengers arsenal. That is only a fraction of the esteemed actor’s career, which includes a myriad of roles that have helped propel him to stardom. Now Cumberbatch is set to star in a new film that takes place in the Wild West, and Netflix has just released the first for the upcoming Netflix film The Power of the Dog.
Set in 1925 and based upon a true story, Cumberbatch plays a menacing rancher from Montana by the name of Phil Burbank. In the film, Burbank and his brother George, set to be played by Jesse Plemons, own and operate a ranch in the Midwestern United States prior to industrialization, leading relatively simple lives. However when George marries a woman, played by Kirsten Dunst, and invites her and her son to move to the ranch with him, things get interesting when Cumberbatch’s character elects to take the young man under his wing. While more specific details have yet to be released, what has been released is the official trailer for the project and the ominous tone it emphasizes is enough to make almost any viewer interested. That trailer can be seen below, and The Power of the Dog can be seen in select theaters on November 17th and on Netflix December 1st.
Capitalized by a slow whistle being delivered by Cumberbatch himself, the trailer for The Power of the Dog is intriguing to say the least. It only further fuels the mystery of what exactly goes on at this ranch, and it appears as though we are only beginning to scratch the surface of the upcoming film. Netflix has certainly amassed a talented cast for the project, so it should definitely be worth tuning in. Moviegoers and Netflix subscribers will be able to find out for themselves when The Power of the Dog hits theaters and Netflix in the coming months.
