The all female K-Pop group Blackpink is breaking one boundary after another. The group was just founded in 2014. Now, a mere 6 years later, they are an internationally acclaimed all female group who has reached the top of not only their home audience, but also the American music scene. They have done multiple English hits, such as the popular and trendy song “How You Like That”, and recent collaborations with American pop stars such as Lady Gaga and Selena Gomez.
Their rise to stardom has clearly been recognized by the mass American audience. Their major accomplishment is having recently soared up in the ranks in the Billboard Artist 100 Chart. So recently, they were only #65, and now they have jumped up to #1. K-Pop group BTS had been dominating the chart for 10 weeks, a clearly impressive feat, but they have finally been topped by a new K-Pop group. This is especially empowering because they are the first female K-Pop group to reach #1 on the American Artist 100 chart. International music and particularly K-Pop are definitely being remembered by American music listeners, but it is still a challenge to break through as an international group of a genre that isn’t totally mainstream yet, even more so as an all female one. In fact, before this, they were the first all female group in 9 years to even be on this Billboard chart.Their debut The Album garnered this attention and let them join and down the iconic all male K-Pop group, as they now become only the third K-Pop group to top the charts. We hope to see more of Blackpink’s music soon, and we hope they keep doing what they’re doing!
