The upcoming 2021 Grammy Awards have been generating so much hype over the past months, even more so since the entire nomination list was released just around Thanksgiving. For this year, the Recording Academy made some adjustments, as they made sure to increase voting membership by 2300 amidst previous criticism over not enough diversity and inclusion, a practice they have tried to change this year. In addition, they made some belated edits to the list. Beyoncé was leading the Grammys with 9 nominations, but another family member is joining her- her 8 year old daughter. Yesterday, Blue Ivy was added to the list for her contribution to the powerful music video for the song “Brown Skinned Girl”.
This is the 8 year old talent’s first ever Grammy nomination, making her one of the youngest, if not the youngest, ever to be nominated. The music video for Beyoncé’s “Brown Skinned Girl” got a nomination for the best video, and initially, she was the only one to be acknowledged for the prestigious award. However, her daughter has already shown herself at this young age to be a remarkable talent, and she was featured singing a few of the lines and was known to contribute to some of the songwriting. She earned a writing credit in addition to her recognition within the best music video category. Beyoncé spoke publicly about how proud she is of her daughter and the healthy, supportive environment the two have created, always respecting each other and honoring each other’s accomplishments together. Although Blue Ivy has been in the spotlight for some time, this is an astounding breakthrough for her, and she deserves it! The music video is out on YouTube, and the song is out on all platforms! Best of luck to this iconic mother daughter duo, and we know Blue Ivy is going places with her talent!
