Burna Boy‘s 2019 African Giant project proved to be much more artistic than expected with the use of his elite storytelling through sharp visuals, and he isn’t done yet. On Monday, Sept. 30th the Afrofusion artist dropped the “Another Story” video in honor of Nigeria’s Independence Day on Tuesday.
In the video Burna Boy tells the story of Nigeria breaking free from under British rule in 1960. Nigerian citizens are shown wearing black blindfolds that read words such as “greed,” “corruption,” and “fear,” to represent the various issues that plagued the nation prior to gaining its independence. The video was directed by Clarence Peters and also guest stars Ghanaian Rapper M.anifest.
A separate narrator takes over to leave viewers with a bold final message,
“The British Government paid 865,000 pounds, a huge amount in 1900. So let’s establish a simple truth: The British didn’t travel halfway across the world just to spread democracy. Nigeria started off as a business deal for them between a company and a government.”
