Just when you thought the fascination for the Netflix docs-series Tiger King was over, fans are being struck with even more jarring news concerning one of the most talked about aspects of the show- the disappearance of Carol Baskin’s former husband.
Assuming you were just as bored as the rest of us during the first few weeks of quarantine, than you’ve definitely seen the very weird and arguably fascinating phenomena that was Joe Exotic and his merry band of employees, enemies, and friends.
While the docs-series was intended to follow Joe Exotic as its main character to chronicle the plan leading up to the failed murder-for-pay attempt against his arch-nemesis Carol Baskin, fans took an interest in the target herself.
Baskin’s strange backstory grabbed viewers attention as multiple other cast members provided viewers with their input as to whether or not they believed Baskin could have been a conspirator in the disappearance of her former husband Don Lewis 23 years ago.
The theory that Carol Baskin killed her husband has arguably become a pop culture trend as individuals were quick to coin the phrase “Carol Baskin killed her husband” through merchandise and even a viral TikTok trend. While these trends have began to calm down over the past few months since the show’s airing, Baskin may be sucked back into the internet’s focus due a public announcement made by Lewis’s family.
Don Lewis’s family announced yesterday that they have hired a lawyer and are rewarding $100,000 in exchange to information anyone may be willing to provide regarding the mysterious circumstances. This announcement comes just four months after the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s office reopened the case of Son Lewis’s disappearance amid public attention as a result of the show. The family is sparing no costs as they have also paid to install signage onto multiple Tampa-area billboards regarding the reward. In addition to this, the family has also filed a lawsuit against Carol Baskin in the hopes that it will lead to her being required to speak on the record regarding the case.
Baskin has since spoken with the Associate Press on Monday stating that “It’s been my policy not to discuss pending litigation until it’s been resolved,” she wrote. “I had told some news outlets that I thought the press conference on Aug. 10 was just a publicity stunt, but at that time was not aware there would be pending litigation.”
Baskin’s thoughts towards the family’s motives may not come as too much of a surprise given the way in which Lewis’s family expressed their obvious negative feelings towards her during their brief appearance on the show.
