Stephen King is infamously known for leaving readers spooked and on the edge of their seats when it comes to his novels and movies. From the cinematic classics such as IT, Pet Semetary, and The Boogey Man, these are the movies that keep you up at night. Needless to say, King is always continuously implementing new ideas to improve the horror experience.
After Netflix claimed the rights to Kings’ novels, the streaming platform decided to recreate Gerald’s Game theatrically in 2017. The movie stars Critics Choice Award-winning actress Carla Gugino and Bruce Greenwood. Mike Flanagan serves as the film’s director. He’s also known for directing The Haunting of Hill House, Doctor Sleep, The Midnight Club, and Midnight Mass.
The summary of Gerald’s Game relates to a woman named Jessie Burlingame who mistakenly kills her husband, Gerald Burlingame, during an intimate moment. Due to the traumatic event, Jessie is left by herself in the forest. As time passes, her mind wanders. Jessie begins to hallucinate and eventually questions her own sanity.
Despite its debut nearly seven years ago and a number of mixed reviews from critics, the Gerald’s Game film has found a way to remain relevant. At the beginning of this week, Gerald’s Game became a trending topic after a meme page named Juicing Cousin posted a poster for the horror flick in a Facebook group called Netflix Bangers. Immediately, fans expressed their take on the movie. Some Facebookers even expressed that they couldn’t fandom some of the gory scenes, i.e Jessie trying to open the handcuffs she was in before her former husband passed.
“Good movie, even better book!” one person commented.
Meanwhile, another person typed: “Loved it – seen it 3x lol. Can be uncomfortable in certain scenes but worth a watch.”
Gerald’s Game is just one of Stephen King’s stories to exemplify what horror is.
