Throughout Hollywood’s long and expansive history, we have been introduced to a myriad of unique individuals that have come to help define the ethos of the uniquely talented industry. From actors to singers and virtually everything in between, Hollywood has become home to some incredibly talented individuals who have become integral in shaping our experience of film and television for decades. This trend certainly is not dissipating either, with the creative minds in Hollywood constantly hard at work to bring us the next exciting project that will have moviegoers flocking to theaters upon said project’s release. A new film will seemingly bring together the legacies of two men who have been key players in Hollywood since the turn of the century: Daniel Radcliffe is set to play the esteemed comedian Weird Al Yankovic in an upcoming biopic being produced by Roku.
Many of us will remember Radcliffe for the time he spent as the star of the iconic Harry Potter franchise, playing the titular wizard across eight films that absolutely crushed box offices around the globe. Though maybe not as iconic, Weird Al’s legacy is just as tangible: he was first exposed to the entertainment industry via radio in the 1970’s before becoming one of the most legendary comedians of his time, most notably using comedy in his music to make it more relatable to the average listener. Take for example his Trapped in the Drive Thru saga, a play on R. Kelly’s iconic Trapped in the Closet series of songs and music videos that flipped the concept on its head and detailed the average person’s struggles of going through a fast food drive thru. Now their legacies are set to collide in a new biopic being produced by Roku aptly titled Weird: The Al Yankovic Story that will see Radcliffe undertake the role of the iconic comedian and bring Weird Al’s story to the big screen, with Weird Al and Funny or Die’s Eric Appel penning the script for the budding project.
Radcliffe and Yankovic have certainly enjoyed very successful careers, and now their career’s are set to cross paths in the upcoming biopic Weird: The Al Yankovic Story. While this may not be the collaboration fans were expecting, it certainly sounds intriguing to say the least. While many of us remember Radcliffe as Harry Potter to this day, it will certainly be interesting to see him in such a unique role and fans can remain on the lookout for further updates about Weird: The Al Yankovic Story in the coming weeks.
