Daniel Dwayne Simmons III, known to the general public as Diggy Simmons. I have been following the multi-talented young man since his time on Run’s House. I remember, when he attempted to launch his clothing line Chivalrous Culture; I wanted my mom to buy me his sneakers. Even then, he was being progressive with it being rare for young artists to have their own brand. The brand eventually discontinued but the idea alone was impressive. When his debut album Unexpected Arrival was released; it received many favorable reviews. Diggy would release three mixtapes prior to this but only his first garnered real attention
He would release 4 singles after dropping his debut album; taking a break in between. Then he would take a three-year hiatus from music completely, dropping no singles or appearing on features. In early November of last year; he released his best project to date called Lighten Up. On this project; he’s at his best in every aspect. There are spiritual and soulful elements throughout this course of this album. Diggy is so introspective while also trying to put his peers and fellow youth on game to progress and move through life. Not once throughout this album was there any bad tracks. Which made me raise the question of why few major hip hop platforms covered it? Nevertheless, Diggy hasn’t just become older, he became wiser as well.
