Over the course of Hollywood history, new projects come and go virtually on a daily basis. Some projects are pitched to studio executives but never see the light of day, while others end up taking on a life of their own and achieving more success than anybody thought possible. How each project ultimately fairs depends upon a number of variables, and how those variables work together in order to provide moviegoers with an experience that will resonate with them upon sitting down in theaters to watch a new film. For example the new Haunted Mansion film is relying in part upon the nostalgia inspired by its predecessor which released two decades ago, and now eager fans are in luck as the official trailer for the reboot set to be released this year was unveiled earlier this week.
Originally premiering in 2003, Haunted Mansion starred the iconic Eddie Murphy as he and his family embarked on a road trip only to stumble upon a uniquely ominous house. As a result, their family vacation is momentarily put on hold as they are forced to content with the spirits, both good and bad, embedded into the mansion before they continue on their way. Haunted Mansion quickly became another classic in Disney’s extensively robust catalog and is remembered fondly to this day, even serving as the inspiration for a ride at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida. Now the project is set to make a return with a Haunted Mansion reboot scheduled to premiere in theaters later this year, and to the pleasure of eager fans Disney has unveiled the first official trailer for the budding project. In it, fans are welcomed to a mansion that appears to be even more dark and ominous than its predecessor and is backed by a star-studded cast that includes the likes of Rosario Dawson, LaKeith Stanfield, Owen Wilson and several others who are all tasked with the challenge of contending with the evil spirits at its core. Said trailer can be seen below, and excited fans can begin counting down the days until the Haunted Mansion reboot debuts in theaters on July 26th.
Now more than ever before, reboots have become the name of the game in Hollywood. While new projects continue to be produced at a rate greater than ever before, more and more often we are seeing studio executives revisit the timeless projects that helped them achieve critical acclaim in the first place. Then when you have a catalog as robust as Disney’s, that just makes it as easy as it can possibly be. It looks like they have another winner on their hands with Haunted Mansion, but eager fans will have to wait until this summer to find out for themselves.
