Since their inception, Disney has come a tremendous way and cemented its position as one of the preeminent companies in all of entertainment. Animated classics such as Cinderella and The Lion King have established Disney’s position as one of the predominant forces in all of animation and have elevated the media company to a position unlike that of any other media company in the entire country. They even have their own streaming service with DIsney+ serving to bridge the gap between Disney and their fans by providing them with content in the comfort of their own homes. Now they are digging in their vault to find something to appease those very fans, and they’ve found it in the form of a teaser trailer for the highly anticipated live-action Pinocchio remake which is expected to hit their streaming platform later this fall.
For anyone who may be unfamiliar with the story, Pinocchio tells the tale of a woodworker named Geppetto who decides to make a marionette doll one day only to find himself wishing that the young boy he has crafted could spring to life. His wishes would come to fruition however when he sees a shooting star one night and wishes that Pinocchio were a real boy, with his wish being answered by a small blue fairy that breathes life into the wooden doll. The original animated Pinocchio film was released back in 1940 and today he is considered by many to be an integral part of Disney’s DNA, and now it looks like they are ready to introduce the story to a new generation of fans as well. Disney unveiled the official teaser trailer for their live-action Pinocchio reboot this week and it certainly looks interesting, bringing the iconic character into the 21st century alongside the reputed Tom Hanks who has been enlisted to play the role of Geppetto in the upcoming production. The teaser, narrated by Hanks as well, can be seen below and eager fans can begin counting down the days until Pinocchio premieres on Disney+ on September 8th.
Disney’s catalog is as extensive as it is rich, making it no surprise when they elect to revive one of their countless memorable classics. It is interesting to see them make a live-action version of a beloved animated project however, and they’re clearly pulling out all the stops enlisting the help of an actor like Hanks. It will be interesting to see what comes of it when Pinocchio premieres on Disney+ this fall.
