We all love to see the female pop music icon, Dua Lipa emerge with another dazzling pop song that makes us all want to jump and dance. Her recent hits have continued to measure up to her usual high standard. Yet, it’s even more exciting to see her team up with iconic and empowering female singers who established themselves earlier but continue to emerge and inspire audiences beyond ages and generations. On that note, Dua Lipa just announced that she is in fact teaming up with Missy Elliott and Madonna for her newest remix! They are looking forward to putting together a new remix of Lipa’s hit “Levitating”, which is set to be released on August 14th!
According to British music news website New Musical Express (NME), the British pop star and her manager revealed that she has been hoping for a music collaboration with the legendary Madonna for some time, and Lipa’s recent Instagram post is captioned announcing the remix being a “dream come true” for her. The original master version of “Levitating” was initially released as part of her second album, the well regarded, five stars rated Future Nostalgia. Many of the songs in this album, including “Levitating” as well as “Cool”, “Physical”, and many more, all emphasized her usual uplifting, energetic vibe, carried by Lipa’s deep, rich, voice.
The name of the album as well as this energy of the songs implies an impending and recurring desire to explore the easy, carefree, happy times filled with dancing and romance. In addition, the initial album release as well as the upcoming remix are both published during a difficult time amid the Covid-19 pandemic, in which the music industry has been especially compromised in terms of efficiency and earnings. This music sheds some positivity during these uncertain times and lets us listeners step away from our anxiety and stress, just for a little, and having a rapper like Missy Elliott is a perfect fit for a remix of this kind of song, as adding a rap, with Elliott’s style especially, would only exacerbate and enhance the hit’s fast, upbeat, party energy. At the same time, the versatile Madonna’s voice would be able to diversify the singing styles incorporated in the song.
Using her experience and success with her similarly energetic hits like “Holiday”, but at the same time having a strong background in different styles with songs like “La Isla Bonita”, she would be able to simultaneously contribute to and contrast the styles of the former two singers within the upcoming remix. In this way, Madonna, of course along with Missy Elliott, can add a substantial original twist to the master version and can possibly spread appeal of this song beyond the Gen Z and millennial generation. We are excited to see how the remix comes out!
Let the countdown to August 14th begin!
