Timeless music, strong drinks and good vibes was exactly what I walked into at The Delancey in NYC. On Tuesday, January 14th Justin Love held an exclusive invite only listening event sponsored by Grunge Cake along side Perez Inc and Plugdin that was nothing less than a whole 2020 mood. The dim-lit intimate, sexy setting was perfect for the rising young legend to take the stage and do what he was born to do—spread LOVE.
The room quickly got flooded with celebrity guests such as ThisIs50’s Jack Thriller, International-DJ Ryan Vandal, TheFeaturePresentation’s own Amber Le on behalf of DJ SussOne, Award-Winning Singer/Songwriter DanteWuzHere, Love Gang’s DJ FastLife, and Hot97’s DJ Drewski just to name a few. I was honored to be personally asked to do an exclusive on stage sit-down to start the evening off with the “Sober” hitmaker.
Boom Boom : What was something that you accomplished that you were proud of, that made you say, damn, I did that! I made that happen!
Justin Love : I mean the Grammy writing for sure– “Focus” (H.E.R) made a really big impact in my livelihood. Not only my career but definitely my living situation…. I have a mother [and] a little brother to take care of…There’s a lot you have to sacrifice and do on your own in order to just make it happen. I’m definitely proud of how I made it.
Boom Boom : Who were some people you felt contributed to your career thus far?
Justin Love : I mean definitely my Mom, who sings her ass of for no reason so shouts to her, Danilo, Nino, Destyn, Curtis Wright, Big Paul, Bad Management, Love House Productions, Free, Grey Space and all my haters ….
Boom Boom : What is your recording process like? How do you know when you have that hit?
Justin Love : You really got to practice your intuition and know something is something… But I make sure every time I go to the studio I’m finishing a song, the whole song…
Boom Boom : Okay final question… What makes “Justin Love” feel alive?!
Justin Love : All of you!! I definitely had to just stand up to let you all know how much I care about how you guys really care about me..I appreciate each and every one of you being here tonight…
Justin opened up about personal obstacles he had to overcome in his life and inspired the crowd saying, “truly just be yourself everything will fall into place as long as you are genuine and don’t feed into negative energy along the way because ultimately that makes you just as negative.” I felt that. Following the interview we were partying to three hours of unreleased back to back tracks that will be a part of upcoming albums and projects in the near future. The first two performed were both features produced by super-producer CitoOnTheBeat. “Take You Home” by Mia Marvelous Feat. Justin Love, which was a super modern rendition of the Foxy Brown‘s 1996 smash, a whole vibe that got everyone singing and reminiscing. KyyInTheCut then took the stage performing “Baby We Can Go” also Feat. Justin on the hook while Kyy spit straight bars, punch line after punch line of lyrical porn to our ears.
Justin then brought us back to his day one hit “Stress Nomore” and caught us up on his latest “Sober” which was released a couple days ago. Sober is a heart pulling break-up song we all can relate to losing someone you loved and not knowing how to cope.
“Cause one pill aint enough can’t help me with this. Put lean in my cup can’t help me fuck it. Three lines rolled up still thinkin’ bout it. In the bed with someone else but it’s you that I miss..” -“Sober” Justin Love
Tuesday evening was definitely one for the books and a real treat for his fans. Keep it locked for upcoming Justin Love tour dates and album details.
