On the list of iconic Hollywood film franchises, very few outrank the timeless Harry Potter franchise. Telling the story of a young man who learns he has otherworldly powers and how he comes to grips with his power, the Harry Potter films were integral to many of our childhoods and continue to elate fans who grew up on the timeless films. While it has been a decade since the last Harry Potter movie was released, they have persisted in popular culture to this very day with an entire theme park dedicated to the franchise at Orlando’s Universal Studios. While the franchise is certainly over, diehard Harry Potter fans have something to look forward to as the first official images for the new HBO special Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts being unveiled earlier this week.
Debuting in 2001 with Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, the Harry Potter franchise transported viewers into the magical world of Hogwarts. It was there that Harry, alongside his friends Ron and Hermione, would learn the magnitude of his powers as a wizard and face some gruesome battles in the process, establishing the franchise amongst the greatest Hollywood had ever seen. The franchise ended in 2011 with the release of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2 and brought the decade-long release of films to a bittersweet ending that no one could argue with as we had seen Harry grow from a boy to a man. Warner Brothers will now be revisiting the Harry Potter franchise in the upcoming reunion special Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts that will bring Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint back together again to relive the magic they experienced together on set and reflect upon how memorable of an experience it was for them. For an entire decade, Harry Potter and company dominated box offices globally while providing moviegoers with absolutely classic content.
