HBO has a long-standing reputation for producing high quality content that dates back several decades. HBO series like The Sopranos and The Wire are considered to be among some of the greatest television series ever crafted while more recent endeavors such as the historical drama Chernobyl continue to rack up awards for the network. Decade after decade they continue to produce cutting edge content that most networks would shy away from and reap the benefits of what they sew virtually every time they release something new. Despite the incredibly tense atmosphere that currently is modern American politics, HBO is not shying away from what some may deem a touchy subject: the prestigious network is currently producing a new series titled White House Plumbers, and they have cast some impressive names to kick things off.
Despite the title, White House Plumbers isn’t going to be a sitcom about people fixing toilets around the President’s home. In fact, it is going to touch upon a relatively serious event in American history: the limited series is set to explore the Watergate scandal that embroiled Richard Nixon’s presidency in controversy back in the early 1970’s. HBO has been busy figuring out who will star in the five-part series and they seemingly have struck gold with Justin Theroux set to play G. Gordon Liddy and Woody Harrelson to play E. Howard Hunt, the masterminds behind the heart of the Watergate scandal. Joining them will be Judy Greer, Kiernan Shipka and Kim Coates, among a variety of other industry veterans who are sure to bring life to one of the darkest political scandals in American history. They also have an equally impressive team behind the camera with Veep producers Alex Gregory and Peter Hyuck set to write the series and David Mandel set to direct.
HBO has set high standards for themselves with their past work, yet somehow manage to live up to the expectations still with every new release. It’s impressive to say the least, and with a team like this it is difficult to imagine they don’t manage to strike gold again with White House Plumbers. Veep has received stellar reviews from critics at every level, and if the creative team behind that series can bring any of the magic over to this project then avid television watchers might have something in store for them in the near future. Remain on the lookout for further details about the upcoming HBO limited series White House Plumbers.
