Just this past week, legacy artist Jimmy Buffett received the honor of being inducted into the Mississippi Songwriters Hall of Fame. The American country-rock star became well known even today through his 1977 song “Margaritaville”, the same one that inspired the opening of the national Mexican restaurant under the same name and to his credit. The singer/ songwriter has many other well known songs that share a similar idyllic and laid back style reflective of his relaxed island lifestyle.
Featured above is Buffett in 1977 at a live performance of the iconic “Margaritaville” song. Now 73 years old, he is still well remembered and regarded, and surprisingly has briefly returned to music. Just this year, he released a new album, “Life on the Flip Side”, one of his newest since 2006, except one album in 2015. The album has a cover of an island and similarly reflects his calm, tropical theme. It’s amazing how despite his age he still periodically carries out his passion and keeps working on new music. There are many great songs in his most recent album, especially his 2020 release. This year’s Mississippi Songwriters Hall of Fame ceremony was held virtually due to Covid-19, but that did not affect the quality of the ceremony or the prestige of this honor in any way, and Jimmy Buffett will always continue to be appreciated and respected.
