Just earlier today, November 17th, Katy Perry finally launched her newest music video and joint campaign, in which she partnered with Coca Cola. This theme was meant to go along with her remix of her previous successful hit “Resilient”. In this new remix, she collaborates with the Dutch DJ Tiësto, named the Greatest DJ of All Time in 2013, and internationally acclaimed Spanish pop and R&B singer Aitana.
Katy Perry wanted to create a remix of this song in order to keep the word and the message of the song fresh in her audience’s minds during the stressful, difficult, and uncertain times that everyone is facing due to Covid-19, quarantine, and the ongoing life changes as a result of it. In fact, the music video was very thematic of the staying at home vibe and enjoying the little things in life message while people are struggling. People in the music video are seen mostly at home, in bed, playing instruments, learning new skills, cuddling with pets, spending time outside, and being affectionate with loved ones. They are smiling and taking the opportunity of being at home to live in the present and find relaxing activities to help them enjoy themselves. The tone is very hopeful and wholesome, and all of the people in the video have smiles on their faces. The lyrics also reinforce the atmosphere emulated in the video with phrases about rainbows, climbing higher, brilliance, and a flower going through the cracks. The song also incorporated a new hashtag, #OpenToBetter which equally contributes to spreading positivity and hope and is now going viral on social media platforms. Coca Cola echoed the sentiment in its contribution to spreading the hashtag.
In the remix, Katy Perry still sang the first verse, but Aitana sings the whole second verse herself. Aitana’s verse is a mix of English and her native Spanish, and the inspirational, uplifting tone is just as apparent in the Spanish lyrics. She keeps a wholesome, natural smile on her face as she sings her verse and then powerfully sings the “I am resilient” chorus. Katy Perry wears a red and white sweater and Aitana wears red in order to match the colors of the Coca Cola brand and represent their partnership. The beautiful music video and the remix are out on all platforms! We love this collab!
