Kenan Thompson and Kel Mitchell have been a comedic duo for as long as millennials can remember. Back in the ’90s, the two took part in All That, then ventured off with their own show, Kenan and Kel, which sees the best buds toughing it out through hilariously, ironic scenarios. Yet, despite a 30-year friendship, the two decided (amid their careers) to take on different acting roles.
But their separate career paths didn’t necessarily mean all love was lost! They’re still going strong, and Mitchell calling Thompson his ‘bro’ is a strong indicator of this. Recently, Mitchell went on Fox Soul’s One on One with Keyshia Cole to speak about his newfound occupation: being a youth pastor. He also went in-depth about how he embarked on his acting career. When Mitchell was 14 years old, his parents pushed him towards the arts. In turn, he found solace in theater while he watched most of his friends die or get sent to jail. His best friend, Thompson, however, found success on Saturday Night Live, being the longest cast member in SNL history.
As irony may have it, Mitchell admitted he, too, auditioned for a spot on SNL when Thompson did. “That was way back. But yeah it was me, Kenan, DeRay [Davis], a whole bunch of host of other comedians that went in and Kenan got it. So, shout out to Kenan. Super excited for him. That’s my bro.” he reminisces. Okay! Go best friend, that’s his best friend.
