This year’s VMAs, the MTV Video Music Awards, this past Sunday were one of a kind. Due to Covid-19, there wasn’t an in-person audience. Many new and recurring stars had their performances pre filmed, and a vast majority of artists sent in their speeches or acknowledgments for the awards they have won. However, one major exception was this year’s 5 time award winner Lady Gaga, who showed up and delivered a stellar performance on a huge, well lit stage.
Lady Gaga has in fact won 5 total awards at this year’s VMAs, and the popular star has now reached the third greatest number of total VMA awards with 18. This unbelievable number has previously only been surpassed by Beyoncé with 24 and Madonna with 20. Not only did she make her mark on this year’s event with those wins, but she also did so by putting on such a show. Below are just a few of her 9 outfits of the night.
She strutted up and down the stage in these and delivered upbeat, synchronized, energetic coordinated dance moves with her crew in these iconic outfits that took fashion to a new level of originality. The same can be said for the multicolor masks she wore filled with glamour and jewels that only complimented her stylish outfits. She danced in a group but they all wore masks, as Lady Gaga encouraged this out of safety and respect and in order to set a positive example. Her looks were safe and corona friendly. Yet, wearing a mask did not even hinder her singing. She wore a special mask that looked like it had a built in device or transmitter. Her voice was beautiful and powerful as usual and it was well heard. She sang through a mask that was technologically built to emit sound waves, which signals that her sound was recorded and enhanced her ability to sing.
One of the best moments of her long “Chromatica Medley” was the stunning collaboration between her and Ariana Grande. Both made their mark on the stage in their unique outfits and their impeccable talent as they performed their new hit, “Rain on Me”, leading their dancers in an energetic dance at the front of the stage as they both sang flawlessly and worked well together.
