Just when fans thought The Forever Purge would bring The Purge franchise to a close, the sixth film is all set to emerge! This news comes just a few months after the fifth installment hit theaters for a killer release in July. James DeMonaco, the creator of the Purge franchise, seems to have confirmed that the script for the upcoming horror film is complete. He also leaks that return character Leo Barnes played by Frank Grillo, is at the center of the synopsis. DeMonaco said in an interview with Slashfilms,
“Dude, my Purge 6 idea is all about Frank. It’s all about the Leo character. Without giving anything away, I think he’s off on his own, but he’s going to be called back into action, hopefully on Purge 6, if we’re lucky enough to do it. I hope that Leo comes back. That’s the goal. When I came up with Purge 6, he was the center of the idea. I’m hoping that we get to do that with him.”
DeMonaco also revealed that the upcoming film would take place in a remapped America. In an interview with Comicbook.com he said,
“I’ll say this: the America that we enter into in Purge 6 is not the America we now live in. It’s been remapped, I should say, in a unique way. And we’re entering into this very changed surface of America. And the other thing I can say, because I think it’s already out there, is that, if it happens, it is the return of Frank Grillo’s Leo character, so that’s fun. But it’s definitely … A new America has been formed. And after, it’s about 10 to 15 years after The Forever Purge.”
Frank Grillo has also confirmed his return as character Leo Barnes (also known as The Sergeant), during a podcast episode with The Playlist Podcast. There isn’t an official synopsis for the film or an expectation for when production will begin. However, judging by the popularity of the first five films and spin-off series, I’m sure fans will receive the sixth one well. Since the film will follow the events from the last film, it would be a good time to check it out. The Forever Purge is available on Digital HD now and on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD on September 28th.
