The Feature Presentation Studios was invited to 50 Cent’s premiere of his new series For Life . ABC picked up Isaac Wright Jr’s story of how he managed to free himself and others from behind bars using “hard work and goodwill.” The venue was filled with very important people from the cast, Cut 50 & the Reform Alliance. Van Jones was the first to bless the red carpet with his intellectual persona. Amber Lé had the pleasure of speaking to him and asked a few questions to which he shared his educational answers.
The Lincoln Center in NYC hosted this star-studded event. There was a cocktail hour for guests to quench their thirst while they waited for the theater doors to open. The debut of the series was ABC’s way of saying they are taking a stand against police brutality and the criminal justice system. When asked about how For Life would influence the culture, many stated that they hoped this would wake the nation up to the issues that minorities face.
Tyla Harris spoke about the significance of being chosen to be one of the few women in the cast and expressed how honored she was to portray her character, Jasmine. Throughout the evening the rest of the talented actors and actresses arrived on the red carpet affair. Nicholas Pinnock who plays Aaron Wallace, Indira Varma as Safiya, Joy Bryant as Marie, Glenn Flesher as Frank, Dorian Missick as Jamal, Mary Stuart Masterson as Anya and Boris McGiver as DA Maskins.
The entire cast agreed that the For Life series will be making a huge statement about educating ourselves in order to protect, not only yourself, but those around you as well. Jones made a point that we use television for entertainment, displaying aliens and other fantasy content, so why not use the platforms for something positive and spread wisdom as opposed to nonsense.
Towards the end of the night, executive producer, Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson emphasized on the panel how he didn’t want to make Isaac’s story a movie because of the two hour time limit. He wanted the plot to really show Wright’s ambition of a hustler using his street and book smarts to free him from his cage amongst others. Catch the For Life series airing on ABC February 11th at 10PM. Check out the event pictures below!
