When most of us imagine Disney, the first thing that comes to mind is the historic castle that serves as Cinderella’s palace at the center of the Magic Kingdom theme park. The same castle serves as the focal point of countless Disney advertisements and promotions, highlighting the magical nature of Disney and its theme parks. Disney seemingly does not want to restrict this magic to just those who can visit their theme parks however, bringing the magic to Disney+ subscribers as well. This will come in the form of a new series centered around the Magic Kingdom theme park that further illuminates the characters and stories inherent in the Disney theme parks and establishes a new universe which they will exist in.
Disney will be teaming up with Ronald Moore, creator of the new Apple TV series For All Mankind, to begin production on the new concept. Moore has been working closely alongside the Disney engineers responsible for construction of their theme parks to get a better grasp on the universe he is attempting to establish, and has reportedly already begun working on a multitude of projects. The first project is to be titled The Society of Explorers and Adventurers and will be written and executively produced by Moore as part of his mult-iyear contract with Disney. Per Hollywood Reporter, this new series will explore characters such as the captain of the Jungle Cruise or the prospector from Big Thunder Mountain in a unique way where Magic Kingdom will serve as the setting and allow for character’s stories to intertwine and overlap regardless of their origins.
While this may seem like an ambitious effort for Disney, it is difficult to imagine anyone pulling off this feat successfully other than the media giant. Using their theme parks as a focal point bridges a gap that has only been widening between the company and consumers as COVID restrictions have inhibited tourism around the globe. Additionally, it allows them to use elements of earlier work to tell new and interesting stories to a new generation of Disney fans, ensuring Disney World remains the happiest place on Earth. While no official release dates have been announced quite yet, Disney+ subscribers can be on the lookout for a new series that is sure to pique their interest.
