Throughout the course of Hollywood history, moviegoers have been treated to a plethora of critically acclaimed franchises. From Star Wars to The Avengers, the list is virtually endless and the number of projects encompassed in it equally as abundant. Some of those franchises even become so successful they inspire a series of spinoff projects which further expand upon the universes created by their predecessors and allow their respective franchises to live on. Well today fans got treated to the new trailer for the latest update in the spin-off series inspired by one of the most iconic franchises of all time, as Michael B. Jordan looks like he is prepared to go to war once again in the preview for Creed III.
Originally kicked off in 2015 the Creed franchise is the highly successful spin-off to the Rocky franchise in which Michael B. Jordan plays Donnie Creed, the son of Rocky’s nemesis from the original franchise Apollo Creed. Attempting to carve out an equally successful career as his father in boxing, Donnie begins his career from virtually the bottom but ascends remarkable heights throughout the course of the first two films. Now he is at the top of the boxing world and has successfully built a legacy of his own, but this time it is instead his past that is set to come back and haunt him. In the official trailer for Creed III, reposted below, we see Jordan go head to head with Jonathon Majors who is set to play Donnie’s childhood friend and now rival Dame Anderson. Eager to make up for lost time, Anderson is hellbent on exacting his revenge after recently receiving his freedom following a lengthy prison sentence and getting his piece of the pie even if that means taking it away from Donnie. Creed III certainly looks like it’s going to live up to the hype, and moviegoers can look forward to seeing it in theaters when it debuts March 3, 2023.
While some spin-offs fail to achieve a ton of success relative to their predecessors, the Creed franchise certainly isn’t one of them. While it certainly has its similarities to the Rocky franchise, the Michael B. Jordan-led franchise is certainly unique enough in its own right to have carved out its own place in Hollywood history that should make Creed III equally as successful. Eager fans will just have to remain patient for a few months until it hits theaters in March.
