This morning, TMZ announced that the King of Pop’s crystal socks will be sold at an auction for over 1 million dollars.
This initial price comes about because these socks marked a significant time in history. Jackson wore the reflective, silver pair back in 1973 while doing his signature moonwalk for the very first time.
About the socks, HotNewHipHop says “It was during the Motown 25: Yesterday, Today, Forever television special when Michael stunned millions of viewers with the moonwalk while performing his classic hit, “Billie Jean.” The shiny socks have been apart of music executive Frank DiLeo’s personal collection—DiLeo not only managed the singer for five years in the 1980s, but he also signed the famed singer to Epic Records.”
The socks will also come with a handwritten letter from Michael to DiLeo. Essentially DiLeo uses his penmanship to express his gratitude towards a former manager. And as a thank you gift, DiLeo offered Jackson’s socks to him.
The auctions are set to take place from November 13-22.
