At every corner today, passerby’s will hear Aaliyah‘s angelic croons and very edgy vocal riffs booming out of speakers worldwide. In their 90’s inspired attire, they’ll throw up a peace sign to commemorate the (always dubbed) Princess Of R&B and in-sync, wish her a happy birthday. One of the first few people to celebrate Aaliyah’s day in style was a forever dynamic and animated femcee, Missy Elliott.
Elliott used her Twitter fingers with an open heart, saying: “#HappyBdayAaliyah you are still inspiring people!” She then signed off with another note, “Your edginess & smooth dancing SO EFFORTLESS your UNIQUENESS & STYLE unmatched 🔥MUSICALLY your songs will 4EVER be NEXT LEVEL! RIP babygirl 4ever Loved.”
Coupled with her message was videos of Aaliyah in action behind the scenes. “I’ve always been someone who has had an affinity towards edgy things, towards the dark side,” Aaliyah unveils in the clip. “From Romeo to Queen of the Damned to The Matrix, they all kinda represent that for me. It’s very edgy, it’s unique, and it’s a little bit dark, and I like that in my music as well. So, I felt in taking a step into another genre that I wanted to do something that people could understand the flow with me, and they know me that way in music, so I thought this was the best way.”
The R&B singer died in a plane crash in the Bahamas back in 2001. At 22 years old, the eccentric songstress had a tremendous impact, which will be felt forever.
Happy Birthday Aaliyah! ♡
