Wuhans originated Corona Virus has been the scare of the month since news and medicals reported the first outbreak and the plaque spreading through seas and cities. Of course, social media platforms such as IG, Twitter, Facebook get their share – which many times leads to inappropriate jokes and in this case it themes racism and raises #boycottmulan controversy.
Wuhan, China being Liu Yifies (actress starring as Disney’s Mulan) birth place has encouraged a #BoycottMulan trending topic. When Liu was asked about the situations responds, telling THR
“It would really be a loss for me if I let the pressure overtake my possibilities.” She then stated, “I think it’s obviously a very complicated situation and I’m not an expert… I just really hope this gets resolved soon.” THR noted that when pressed for answers, the actor repeated, “I think it’s just a very sensitive situation.”
It would be a great loss for fall into the ignorance of the media. Mulans production budget totals $200 million. The film which scheduled for March 27th release is already seeing a huge setback, the film that was made to appeal to Chinas audience is now not being shown in China at all due to the shutdown of theaters in attempts to prevent the spread.
