Since the beginning of 2020, viewers have been introduced to a plethora of new projects to keep them entertained throughout the pandemic. While COVID-19 put a fork in the plans of most major production studios as work was forced to halt in hopes of combatting the virus, Netflix and the multitude of other streaming services have remained hard at work to keep their subscribers at peace. From the Disney+ Star Wars spin-off series The Mandalorian to video game adaptations from Netflix such as The Witcher, it is almost easy to forget that we have been in the midst of a global pandemic for the better part of two years. One series in particular has resonated remarkably with fans since it debuted a few months ago, and now it has been confirmed the next installment is on its way: this week Netflix confirmed that season two of Squid Game is on the way, ready to catapult fans into the bizarre world they were first introduced to not that long ago.
Originally premiering on Netflix back in back in September, Squid Game tells the story of a collective of individuals who are in severe debt and are selected to play a game in which the winner will receive a substantial cash prize. The catch however is that if you lose the game you lose your life as well, making this game about survival just as much as it is about winning the prize. The captivating series immediately had Netflix subscribers on the edge of their seat binging episode after episode, with Rotten Tomatoes giving the series a remarkable 94% rating. It looks like Squid Game isn’t over quite yet however: Netflix confirmed that season two of Squid Game is already on the way, with co-CEO and Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos adding that “The Squid Game universe has just begun.” Eager fans will now just have to remain patient as we await further updates regarding season two of Squid Game.
If you haven’t watched Squid Game yet, then it suffices to say you’re in the minority. Squid Game has already achieved the ranking of the number one most viewed TV series on Netflix, and now it appears they’ll only be strengthening that position. We will just have to wait and see what director Hwang Dong-hyuk has in store, with season two of Squid Game likely closer than anybody expected.
