All Netflix films are now required to be shot in HDR (high dynamic range.)
Granted that many competitors are on the rise, Netflix feels like standing out is a must. According to Variety, this requirement will result in higher quality imagery for customers, but currently, the streaming service’s decision is being critiqued by some Hollywood cinematographers who have received the news last minute from Netflix executives.
Variety adds, “Jimmy Fusil, Netflix manager of creative technologies and infrastructure, acknowledged that communications could be better but insisted the streaming giant respects cinematographers’ work and is invested in getting its viewers “authenticity in the representation” of their vision. “We want what you want,” he added.”
