You may know her from Ned’s Declassified School Survival Guide, Twilight, or even from The Walking Dead, but thanks to her latest role Christian Serratos will officially be known as Netflix’s Latin singer Selena Quintanilla Perez. The casting for the series was announced back in August, but on Tuesday, Nov. 12, Netflix unveiled a first look at Serratos taking the stage in Selena: The Series.
In addition to officially confirming Serratos in the lead role, Netflix also announced other key cast members in its trailer. Serratos is seen in her room reading and practicing her script and applying her signature red lip. As she heads off to rehearsal she stops to give her father, Abraham, a kiss on the cheek, the role being played by Richard Chavira (Desperate Housewives). She also stops to say hi to Madison Taylor Baez who will also feature as a younger version of Selena. Gabriel Chavarria (War for the Planet of the Apes) will act as Selena’s eldest brother and band’s music producer; Noemi Gonzalez (East Los High) as Suzette, Selena’s sister and best friend; and Seidy Lopez (Training Day) as Marcella, Selena’s mother.
The six-episode series is set to air sometime in 2020 and will follow the singer’s rise to stardom in a coming-of-age story that chronicles the life-changing choices facing her and her family as she navigates fame and the music business.
