Over the past decade or so, few production companies, if any, have had a run quite like Marvel has. With too many successful franchises to even name at this point, Marvel has established itself as one of the preeminent production companies in film and helped redefine the superhero film genre as we know it. Thus it is of no surprise that every time news comes out about one of their movies, their fanbase is usually glued to their screens trying to find out every little detail about the project and speculate about what could take place. The latest project to have their dedicated fans eager to find out more is the next installment of the Thor franchise, with the newest images of the project seemingly adding fuel to the romantic twist foreshadowed in the title.
Celebrating its 10 year anniversary this year, the latest reboot of the Thor franchise kicked off in 2011 with Chris Hemsworth in the titular role. The hulking superhero was instantly a hit amongst fans with his modestly brute nature and the franchise has seen great success since, being followed up by several films and other spin-off projects. Set to be the fourth film in the latest remake, Thor: Love and Thunder is set to help punctuate much of what has already taken place throughout the first three films as Hemsworth’s character completes his character arc and, in that, a romantic twist is poised to take place. The latest set images made some buzz on social media this week in which they highlighted a scene with Hemsworth walking hand-in-hand with Natalie Portman’s character Jane, who has been Thor’s love interest since the first film. The only significant detail anybody could really ascertain from the photos is that they appear to be set at a jewelry store with rings in full display, however for now it all remains speculation as the project isn’t expected to premiere until next summer.
With an entire decade passed since the Thor franchise originally rebooted, plenty has happened around the world since. Much like Thor, many of us have had a lot going on during this time and we are similarly reaching points in our lives that serve as milestones. For some who grew up on Marvel films like Thor, it’s probably bittersweet in a way to come to these conclusions in similar fashion and should be something special for fans. We will just have to wait and see as Thor: Love and Thunder is scheduled to release on July 8th, 2022.
